The short explanation of this alert was:

Please join us in urging the US Congress to make passage of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, legislation that would give the FDA authority over tobacco products its most important New Year's resolution for 2008.

We have reached a majority in the House of Representatives - with 218 Representatives cosponsoring this legislation.  In the U.S. Senate, more than a majority of Senators – 56 – have cosponsored this critical public health bill.  Join us in urging Congress to make passing this life-saving legislation their top priority for 2008.  Please take a moment to send a letter to your Senators and Representative urging them to make passage of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act a top priority in 2008.  It's past time for Congress to act.  Each day the Congress doesn't act, more than 1,100 kids will become regular, daily smokers.  One-third of them will die from a tobacco-related disease.  Unless Congress acts to protect our kids, Big Tobacco will continue to target and entice them with products like candy- -flavored cigarettes.

Your letter can make the difference! Take a moment and send a letter today to your elected officials in Washington asking them to make protecting our kids from Big Tobacco their top priority in 2008.
