Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit American Lung Association Action Network. The short explanation of this alert was: Thanks to your advocacy efforts the United States took the first step and signed the world's first tobacco control treaty in May 2004. Since then, over ninety countries around the world, from Australia to Vietnam have taken the next step by ratifying this important public health treaty. Despite signing the treaty President Bush has yet to send it to the U.S. Senate for ratification as required by the U.S. Constitution. If the U.S. does not ratify the treaty by November 8, our country will not be a part of the critical Conference of the Parties in February 2006. This meeting will set the rules for how the treaty will be observed and determine the details of implementation. Everyday the treaty languishes on his desk, over 13,000 people around the world will die of tobacco-related diseases. The United States should join the world community in working to prevent this tragedy. Please urge President Bush to immediately send the treaty to the Senate for ratification.
