Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit American Lung Association Action Network. The short explanation of this alert was: The President's budget for fiscal year 2007 proposes to cut critical funds—16 percent—from funding for state and local programs that fight air pollution. Losing these funds would cripple the nation’s first line of defense against air pollution. The State and Local Air Quality Management Program provides essential funding to over 100 state and local air pollution control programs. Without these dollars, the states and local officials in charge of enforcing our nation’s laws against air pollution won’t be able to watch industries and power plants as closely to see if they are following the law. They won’t be able to track down sources of air pollution that are fouling the air in your community. These grants help provide the resources to perform basic air pollution reduction and control activities. These officials provide the programs that are essential to protect public health in ways that reflect local needs and circumstances. A 16 percent reduction in support will reduce the number and effectiveness of these important public health programs. Help restore funding for State and Local Air Quality Management Programs by sending a letter today to your Senators and Members of Congress!
