We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit American Lung Association of Arizona.

The short explanation of this alert was:

The second annual American Lung Association State of Tobacco Control: 2003 report has been released.  This national report card analyzes state tobacco control laws in four key areassmokefree air, tobacco program funding, cigarette excise taxes, and youth access to tobacco.  New Mexico scored grades of  "C" in cigarette excise tax, "F" in tobacco prevention and control spending, "F" in smokefree air, and an "F" for youth access to tobacco.

New Mexico’s tobacco control program needs your help. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended a blueprint to saves lives that includes a comprehensive approach in Community, Chronic Disease and School Programs, Counter-Marketing, and Cessation services. It is critical that New Mexico invest tobacco settlement dollars to prevent our children from becoming addicted to tobacco and to help adult smokers kick the habit. This is a sound investment that will save lives and reduce our state’s health care costs.

Please take a moment to send the attached letter to your State Senator, Representative, and Governor Richardson.
