Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit West Virginia Lung Alert. The short explanation of this alert was: The second annual American Lung Association State of Tobacco Control: 2003 report has been released. This national report card analyzes state tobacco control laws in four key areas--smokefree air, tobacco program funding, cigarette excise taxes and youth access to tobacco. West Virginia scored a grade of "D" in cigarette excise tax, an improvement from last year, and an "F" in tobacco prevention and control spending, smokefree air, and youth access to tobacco. West Virginia's tobacco control program needs your help. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended a blueprint to save lives that includes a comprehensive approach in community, chronic disease and school programs, counter-marketing and cessation services. It is critical that West Virginia continue to invest tobacco settlement dollars to prevent our children from becoming addicted to tobacco and to help adult smokers to kick the habit. This is a sound investment that will save lives and reduce our state's health care costs. If you would like to view details on this alert, please visit here. |
