We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit American Lung Association of California.

The short explanation of this alert was:

According to the newly released American Lung Association State of Tobacco Control Report, California received "A" grades for its smoke-free air and youth access laws, but got an "F" grade for failing to adequately fund tobacco prevention programs, which have been proven to save lives.  This failing grade is based upon the recommendations by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for funding a comprehensive tobacco control program.  California once led the nation in tobacco control and prevention spending, but now even North Carolina, a tobacco growing state, received a better grade in this category than California.  Unfortunately, the Governor's 2005-2006 budget, which was released on January 10, 2005, provides no increases for these life saving programs.

We are urging Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to support efforts to ensure some much needed funding for these life saving tobacco control and prevention programs.
