The third annual American Lung Association State of Tobacco Control: 2004 report has been released.  This national report card analyzes state tobacco control laws in four key areas—smokefree air, tobacco program funding, cigarette excise taxes and youth access to tobacco.  Once again, New Hampshire scored poorly in nearly all the areas of tobacco prevention and control.  Our state scored grades of "F" in smokefree air, "F" in tobacco prevention and control spending, "D" in cigarette excise tax and “B” in youth access to tobacco.

New Hampshire’s tobacco control program needs your help. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended a blueprint to saves lives that includes a comprehensive approach in Community, Chronic Disease and School Programs, Counter-Marketing and Cessation services. It is critical that New Hampshire invest tobacco settlement dollars to prevent our children from becoming addicted to tobacco and help adult smokers kick the habit. This is a sound investment that will save lives and reduce our state’s health care costs.

Please take a moment to send the attached letter to your Senators, Representatives and the Governor to support an increase in New Hampshire’s investment in comprehensive tobacco control programs.
