The short explanation of this alert was:

Colorado Receives Failing Grade for Smoke-Free Air

The American Lung Association has released its national scorecard, grading the states on their success in keeping tobacco out of the hands of kids, protecting workers from exposure to secondhand smoke, and providing necessary funding for tobacco prevention programs.

Here is Colorado's Report Card:

Smoke-Free Air:   F

Tobacco Prevention Spending:    A

Tobacco Tax:   D

Youth Access to Tobacco:   F

Despite the over 15 local smoke-free ordinances implemented throughout the state over the past few years, only 15% of Coloradans are protected by clean indoor air policies-- guaranteeing them a working environment that is safe from the harmful chemicals found in secondhand smoke.

This year the state legislature will again consider passing the Colorado Clean Indoor Air Act, which would make public places and workplaces, including bars and restaurants, throughout Colorado smoke-free.

Please let your Senator and Representative know that you support smoke-free places.  Encourage them to pass strong, comprehensive, smoke-free legislation that protects all workers equally.  No one should have to breathe the harmful chemicals found in secondhand smoke as a condition of employment.

Please edit the letter and email subject line below to personalize it.  Your elected officials want to know why you want a Smoke-Free Colorado.

With your help, Colorado's report card next year will place it on the honor roll!
