State of Tobacco Control Report: 2007

Over 438,000 Americans die each year from disease caused by tobacco.  We can prevent tobacco-related deaths from lung cancer, emphysema and heart disease. Today, 4,000 young people will pick up their first cigarette; more than 1,100 will become addicted regular smokers.   We can change this.   We have proven tools to prevent tobacco addiction.  What is lacking is political will and leadership.  Our state needs to make tobacco control a priority.
