We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit American Lung Association of California.

The short explanation of this alert was:

Californians want smokefree housing but, unfortunately, they are having a hard time finding it.

Take Craigslist.org for example.

Craigslist is the number one classified service in any medium, meaning it is the place to go when searching for a car, couch or place to live. One visit to Craigslist’s apartment listings and you can see why – thousands of listings that you can search for by key word, geographical location, price, pet friendly or not, photo or no photo, number of bedrooms, etc.

But you know what you can’t search by? Smokefree housing.

Every day at the American Lung Association, we receive emails and phone calls, asking for information on finding smokefree housing throughout California. It is clear that an apartment that is free from the dangerous exposure to secondhand smoke is not only desired but sought after.

So why then doesn’t Craigslist.org offer this as “search for” feature?

Because of this, the American Lung Association of California is teaming up with the American Lung Association of Oregon to ask Craig to add a “smokefree” box to their search bar. This is where you come in! Please take 5 minutes and take action on this important issue and then tell 5 friends, family members or colleagues by clicking on the “tell a friend” link at the bottom of this email.

Everyone has the right to breathe clean, healthy air especially when they are in the safety of their own home. Please take action today and make the search for smokefree apartments that much easier!
