GATP's number one priority this year is Clean Indoor Air
Why we need Clean Indoor Air Policies: Kids, Healthcare, and Economics:
- Secondhand smoke worsens the condition of some 200,000 to one million children who suffer from asthma.
- Exposure to tobacco smoke causes as many as 2,000 preventable deaths from sudden infant death syndrome.
- Studies have documented that every year, exposure to secondhand smoke kills tens of thousands of nonsmoking Americans.
- It takes only half an hour of breathing secondhand smoke to suffer the same heart damageprevalent among habitual smokers.
- Georgia spends over $1 billion every year on treatment of tobacco-related illnesses.
- Repeated studies show that enactment of secondhand smoke bans has no significant effect on revenues at bars and restaurants.
We can solve the problem of secondhand smoke! Here’s how:
At the State Level: Let’s Vote for Clean Indoor Air
At the Local Level: Cities and Counties Are Going Smokefree
